Despite the prosperity of the ‘Celtic Tiger’ years, we in St John’s are aware that there are many in our community who have not benefited from that prosperity. This is becoming more and more apparent in these recessionary times.
The parish outreach to those in material need is primarily conducted through the agency of the local branch of St Vincent DePaul Society.
We are fortunate to have a wonderful group of men and women in the parish conference of the Society who work diligently and quietly to help those in need.
They meet every Tuesday at the Presbytery, and all requests for aid should be made in writing and handed in before that meeting.
Parish outreach to those in need is not confined to those who live locally.
St John’s Parish has a strong tradition of assisting people in the more troubled areas of the world. Our parishioners have led aid convoys to places like Bosnia and Kosovo.
