DESCRIPTION:Bishop Nulty has asked that the Kilkenny City parishes celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation at UMPC Nowlan Park at 6.30pm on this Thursday\, 9th September.  Candidates from all Kilkenny City schools will be present with their parents and a sponsor (maximum four people per family).  Entry to the Park will be via the Hebron Road.  Candidates from St. John’s Senior School\, Johnswell National School and the Kilkenny Model School are asked to sit with the St. John’s Parish group in Section D of the new stand.  Please follow the directions of our volunteer stewards and signage and take your seats on time. \nWe remind all families celebrating the Sacrament of the need to be responsible as regards any social gathering that may take place after the Sacrament. Each person and family needs to take personal responsibility for their behaviour at this time. \nWe appeal to all who read this to pray for our young people at this very special time in their lives.  They are now receiving full membership of our Church community and it is our responsibility to welcome them and pray for an outpouring of the Spirit into their hearts. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Confirmation Class of 2021 will celebrate the Ceremony of Light in St John’s Church on this Monday evening at 7.00pm.  All candidates accompanied by one parent are asked to attend.  During the ceremony use will be made of the child’s baptismal candle – please bring it with you.  The sacristan will provide substitute candles for those who don’t have the original baptismal candle to hand. \nThe Ceremony of Light is a pre-Confirmation ceremony and is an important event in preparing the children for Confirmation. A key part of the service is when parents hand the lighted Baptismal candle to their child\, acknowledging that their child is now ready to become a responsible Christian. \nFinal information about Thursday’s Confirmation Ceremony will be available. \n

SUMMARY:Remembrance Tree
DESCRIPTION:At the end of May Bishop Denis Nulty\, Ossory Diocesan Administrator\, celebrated a special Mass of Thanksgiving and Remembrance at St. Mary’s Cathedral. During the Mass\, which was organised by the Ossory Middle Deanery Pastoral Council\, the deceased members of our parish who had funerals curtailed by the coronavirus restrictions were prayed for and remembered. Each of the fourteen parishes involved were presented with a special remembrance tree and candle which were blessed by the bishop. \nOur parish tree will be planted in the grounds of St. John’s Church following 11.30am Mass on next Sunday.  All are invited to attend this short ceremony in the grounds in front of the church.

DESCRIPTION:Next Sunday at 3.00 p.m. (NB: no 11.00 a.m. Mass) \n  \nFollowing months of meetings and planning\, the Bicentenary Celebrations for  Dunmore Church are just upon us. The main event – Concelebrated Mass of Thanksgiving & Re-Dedication – will be celebrated at 3.00 p.m. next Sunday. Regular Mass-goers should take note that this Mass will take place of the normal 11.00 a.m. Mass that day. \nAll are invited to join in the festivities and\, if you have placed your name in the register at the back of the church\, you are invited to the meal in the Community Hall afterwards (catering preparations\, numbers\, etc.\, require this). \nAs well as the area’s residents\, relatives and friends\, former priests of the parish who served in Dunmore\, are also invited guests. \nGreat credit is due to all who gladly ‘put their shoulder to the wheel’ to make this historic milestone become a reality. \nTwo weeks later\, October 21st at 3.00 p.m.\, the Johnswell Community will host their own festivities as they set out to mark the Bicentenary of their church\, The Church of St John The Baptist. Again\, for catering purposes. it’s important to sign the book at the back of each church if you are planning to attend the meal afterwards. \n
